5 Things I wish I had known before college

I write this down mainly to remember to share with those who will listen. I've told many "millennials" and of course like myself at their age, I knew it all.  Perhaps you too feel you know it all, just think  wouldn't you want to save time in college? So here are a few things I wish I had known and done before my collegiate career. 

1. Take all the AP courses I could handle in High School

These will transfer into college credits (check with your potential college first)

2. Make sure you talk to a wise guidance counselor. They are employed at your college for a reason. (This falls in line with #1)

3. Brainstorm, think basics of what I've always liked and how to translate that to a career field and narrow it down from there

4."Ride a longs" in careers I'm interested in.

 Don't be afraid to look silly talking to those people who are working in a job you are interested in

5. Eliminate "fluff classes" in college. I am glad I have the degree I do. However in the bachelors of arts degree track there is some wiggle room with college credits to take as I call them "fluff classes". These classes are not always just an easy A per-say. They are however lighter subjects/topics. What I would do is take vocational type classes. I feel no matter what you do in life you can benefit from a class such as "Shop".

DIY HOTWHEELS SHELF

I know I'm not the only one who finds the daily task of picking up my son's hotwheel cars and trucks seems like a merry-go-round I never asked to ride. Pick up cars, he throws cars all over room, pick up cars, and you see the cycle goes round and round. 

Total project cost= approximately 18$

What You will need:

Lumbar, used here 5 pieces (1in x 4in x 8ft )  

Skill saw

Sand Paper

Paint               (50%off clearance shelf)

Brad Nailer     (optional)

Tape measure

Steps:

•    Measure and Purchase!

•  Measure again then CUT. I had specific requirements. I needed those  Monster Truck Hotwheels to also fit besides the regular hotwheel cars.  -3 inches between each board. 

•  MARK with a pencil on the boards where each shelf will go. 

 Tip: begin with the side boards. 

 NAIL boards together. Begin with your middle board. I did get advice from an actual contractor on this project who said secure the middle shelf first then move outward. He said that way your not left with uneven looking shelves if the measuring is off. I took his advice.

Bonus step for added support if needed:

 Because I had so many shelves (9) I needed a brace on the back of my shelf. I simply used the left over wood and measured and cut a piece of wood to run vertically behind the shelf for more support.
